Hand tingling can be hard to ignore, especially when it wakes you at night or makes it difficult to hold a phone, pen, or tool. You may suspect carpal tunnel syndrome, but similar symptoms can have other causes. Our chiropractor, Dr. Gregory Cobb at Cobb Rehab & Wellness, begins by listening to what you feel and examining the involved areas.

What Carpal Tunnel Symptoms Can Feel Like

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist. It may cause numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers. Some people notice hand weakness or find themselves shaking out a hand during the night. Symptoms may interfere with typing, driving, or tasks that require a firm grip.

That pattern matters, but it doesn’t confirm a diagnosis on its own. Nerve problems elsewhere in the arm or neck can produce similar sensations. Dr. Cobb will ask which fingers are affected, when symptoms appear, and whether you’ve noticed changes in strength. He’ll also discuss your work, activities, and relevant health history.

Care Begins With an Assessment

An examination helps Dr. Cobb decide whether chiropractic care has a role in your plan. Depending on the findings, he may discuss Connective Tissue Release (CTR) for tight tissues in the forearm or nearby areas, care for other joints that appear to be involved, and changes to activities that irritate your symptoms.

You may receive advice about wrist position, work habits, or exercises appropriate to your situation. A wrist brace or another treatment may also be worth discussing with your healthcare provider. CTR and chiropractic care shouldn’t be presented as a guaranteed way to remove pressure on the median nerve, so Dr. Cobb will explain what each recommendation is meant to address.

When Further Testing May Be Needed

If numbness persists, weakness develops, or you’re having trouble with everyday hand use, you may need further medical assessment. Dr. Cobb can discuss a referral when your symptoms or examination findings call for one.
